HDTV Alliance Formed in Beijing, China
February 02, 2007
Beijing-based Gehua CATV Network announced on January 29 that it has formed a Chinese HDTV (High Definition Television) alliance with other nine companies, aiming to speed up the development of HDTV service. Members include Huacheng Film and Television, Dazhong Electronics, Dolby Laboratory, and six HDTV makers, namely Changhong, Haier, Hisense, Panasonic, TCL, and Sharp. Under the agreement, six HDTV makers' LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and PDP (Plasma Display Panel) TV sets sold through Dazhong's retailers will comply with China's homegrown HDTV standard and Gehua's network standard. Gehua is responsible for signal transmission, while Huacheng and Shanghai Media Group will provide HDTV channels.
